Skip hire is a convenient and environmentally friendly way to dispose of your waste and unwanted items. However, some people might be put off, under the mistaken assumption that this requires lots of paperwork.
In actual fact, hiring a skip is much easier than you’d think and the only admin involved is applying for a skip permit.
If you’re based in Bognor Regis or West Sussex, you might be wondering how much this costs. Luckily, the team at SCS Waste is here to help with the guide to skip hire in the region.

A skip permit is essentially an authorisation from the local council that allows you to place a skip on a public road. If you’ll be keeping a skip on your drive, in your garden or on a private gated road, this won’t be required. A skip permit basically ensures that disruption is kept at a minimum and there won’t be too many skips on the same road at any one time.
If you want to hire a skip in Bognor Regis or West Sussex, you’ll first need to apply for a skip permit on the West Sussex County Council website. This comes at a cost of £81 for a 14-day period.*
You’ll also need to fill out an application form detailing your contact information and the specifics of where you’ll be placing the skip and for how long.
*This price may be subject to change. This information is correct as of January 2025.
A skip permit from West Sussex County Council is valid for a 14-day period. An extension period of an additional 14 days is also available, but this comes with another fee of £81. All skip permits will require a minimum of five working days’ notice before the skip is due to be placed, so it’s important to submit an application in good time.
The skip must never be placed on or over:
To ensure the skip is easily visible, you may also need safety lights, traffic cones or markings at both ends; it’s best to consult your skip hire company if you’re unsure.
If you’re planning to place the skip in a controlled parking zone (CPZ), you must contact the council’s parking team with a parking bay suspension request. It will take at least five working days to consider this request and it will come at an additional cost. If this is granted, you’ll be provided with a parking bay suspension reference, which will be needed to process your skip permit.
